Metal in Chinese Medicine is the element of Autumn. It is related to the energy of moving inward, of building structure that is meaningful and purposeful, and of letting go of what is distracting or unnecessary, or what otherwise may sap our energy and essence.
Metal/Autumn is the season of the Lungs and Large Intestine, which allow us to take in and to release in profound ways. These two channels run from our hands to our center and relate directly to our capacity to be permeable to new ideas or to build healthy boundaries.
This workshop will focus on the physiological and energetic qualities of Metal through guided gentle movement and awareness practices, and Yoga through a biomechanical and energetic perspective.
Finger, Hand, Wrist explorations for strength and dexterity
Shoulder and upper back range of motion and postural work
Breath work integrating diaphragm and pelvic floor
Looking at energetic and emotional pathways that injure our metal element: unresolved or unaddressed Sadness or Grief, issues with Respect (self- or toward others)
Through the ancient but always prescient lens of Chinese Medicine (shaped and informed in turn by the philosophies of Daoism, Confucianism and Buddhism), we approach our physical practice in a way that nourishes and supports our growth as human beings on the planet.
